Pre-Anesthetic Bloodwork
Before any procedure involving anesthesia, we strongly advise pre-anesthetic bloodwork to help us identify underlying health concerns that may not yet be visible. This allows us to adjust anesthesia and medications based on your pet’s individual needs, making the procedure safer and recovery smoother.

Dental Services
Dental health plays a major role in your pet’s overall well-being. Our dental cleanings are performed under anesthesia, allowing us to clean above and below the gumline and evaluate the condition of each tooth.
Dentals include:
-
Full dental cleanings and polishing
-
Dental X-rays
-
Extractions (if necessary)
-
Gum and oral health assessments
-
Home care recommendations for aftercare
Left untreated, dental disease can cause pain and may affect your pet’s heart, liver, or kidneys. Routine cleanings can help prevent more serious problems.
What to Expect During Your Visit
Knowing what to expect can make the day of your pet’s procedure feel less overwhelming. Here’s a quick overview of how we care for your pet from check-in through recovery, and what you’ll need to know once they’re back home.
Drop-Off:
Prior to the morning of drop off, we will schedule a specific time to arrive on the day of your pet’s procedure. One of our skilled surgical techs will go over the treatment plan, answer your questions, and begin pre-anesthetic preparations. During your pet's procedure, they will be monitored closely from start to finish.

Pick-Up:
We will schedule a pickup time when we call you once your pet is completed with their procedure. This is almost always the same day, with few exceptions. At discharge, we’ll provide personalized aftercare instructions and review what to expect during recovery. Pain management is a very important step to recovery, as pain delays healing. We’ll also send you home with any necessary medications with instructions. We encourage you to reach out with any questions once your pet is home.

Please call us if you notice vomiting, bleeding, or signs of pain. We’re here to help.
Before Your Pet’s Procedure
To help us provide the safest care possible, all pets must have an established care appointment before surgery or dental procedures at Brookeside. During this visit, we’ll review your pet’s vaccine status and medical history, and provide a personalized care plan and estimate based on what our veterinarians recommend.

Frequent Asked Questions
We know surgery and dental procedures can feel overwhelming. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we hear from pet parents before and after their pet’s visit.
Does my pet need to fast before their procedure?
Yes. Unless we’ve told you otherwise, please withhold food as instructed by us the night before the procedure. Water is usually okay overnight, but may be restricted the morning of surgery.
Will my pet be monitored during anesthesia?
Yes. Your pet will be closely monitored by trained veterinary staff throughout the procedure using modern monitoring equipment.
Can my pet take their regular medication before surgery?
It depends on the medication. Please give us a call ahead of time so we can guide you based on your pet’s specific treatment plan.
Will my pet be in pain?
We use pain medications before, during, and after surgery to keep your pet as comfortable as possible. Pain management is very important to us as pain delays healing. We’ll also send you home with any necessary medications and instructions.
What should I bring on the day of the procedure?
Please bring your pet on a secure leash or in a carrier. If your pet is on any medications, bring them along in their original containers.
How long will my pet stay after the procedure?
Most pets go home the same day. We’ll let you know when your pet is waking up from anesthesia and provide a pick-up time along with personalized aftercare instructions.
